In this 20-minute episode, Saren and April share three fun and simple ideas for making discipline in your home more fun and more effective – at the same time!

If your children have recently gone back to school or your school year is about to begin, you're probably going through some of the same things we're going through. Join Saren and April as they share their own "back to school" stories--along with plenty of practical tips for making the transition work for the whole family.

  • We'll talk about how to be present when our children are home (and how to get things done while they're at school).
  • We'll share specific schedules we established in our own homes when we had preschoolers--and schedules we've established now with older children.
  • And we'll suggest questions you can ask yourself if you're redefining who you are and how you want to spend your time.

A "Bright Line" is a clear, unambiguous rule that you just don't break. It's a boundary you create for yourself that you simply don't cross.

Susan Peirce Thompson--one of the most compassionate, intelligent, deliberate mothers I know, joins us in this episode to talk about how Bright Lines can help us to reach our goals and live happy, healthy lives.

While Susan's specialty is supporting those who struggle with food addictions, we're going to talk about how Bright Lines impact our parenting, faithfulness to a spouse, and even phone use. (You won't want to miss any of the little gems that are embedded in this podcast.)

One of my favorite parts of this podcast was when we discussed the power of "reZOOMing," which is what happens if you DO cross a Bright Line.

We'll talk about the four "S's" of Speed, Loving Self-Talk, Social Support, and Seeking the Lesson.

Susan opens up in this interview about her years as a drug addict. She shares how she changed her life, put her energy into her education, overcame obesity, and then started a journey toward helping others find THEIR way.

The more I get to know her, the more I love her. I think you'll feel the same.

***Special Note***

Susan's work with Bright Line Eating is uniquely for those who struggle with food addictions, and if you are in that place right now (or even if you just want some new ideas for how to nourish your body healthfully), Susan has some incredible resources for you:

Option 1: The Susceptibility Quiz: Are you addicted to food? This five-question quiz will help you find out.

We talk a lot here at Power of Moms about dealing with stress. That's a regular part of motherhood, and because it comes in so many ways, there may never come a time when we are immune from the pressure.

But let's stop for a minute and think about it: When we are physically struggling with illness, fatigue, or injury, we don't hesitate to talk about it, to address it, and hopefully to fix it. However, when we are mentally struggling, we too often hide it, ignore it, or pretend it isn't even a problem. (But it still is.)

Carmen Rasmusen Herbert, American Idol Top 6 Finalist from Season 2, is now a mother of four young boys--and in a recent post she wrote (linked below and discussed in the podcast), she shares practical solutions for other moms who are doing everything in their power to maintain their mental health.

Recording this podcast with Carmen was a pleasure. It was a chance for me (April) to slow down for a moment and think--really think--about what I can do to make sure I'm taking care of myself as a mother.

So come join us for a totally down-to-earth conversation where we'll open our hearts, and then invite you to do the same.  (Comments always invited and appreciated!)
